WindScanner is a Unique operational Research Infrastructure able to scan and map 3D wind fields in huge volumes of air using synchronized and trajectory-coordinated scanning of the wind fields in the atmospheric boundary-layer on and offshore. In particular, the RI’s unique beam-steerable wind lidars enable sensing of the wind and turbulence fields by scanning the probing laser beams in the air flow in 3D at high spatial and temporal resolution.
WindScanner.eu operate two separate systems of trajectory coordinated and synchronized scanning lidars, a short range (10-300 m range) and a long range (0.1 – 10 km) systems including control and data processing software, that provide the users with measurements of all three wind components for instance around single turbines and entire wind farms.
In addition WindScanner has developed and operate a special SpinnerLidar able to scan the inflow at 400 points per second over the rotor plane for inflow and wake measurements from the nacelle or spinner of an offshore wind turbine.
